How it works

Step One: Curate Massive Amounts Of Data

We gather critical weather data from the Tempest Network, a large and growing dataset that starts with Tempest stations and includes tens of thousands of other surface weather stations. This data is then combined with sources such as satellites, radar, government, and private sources. Finally, these data are curated; aided by comprehensive quality control and quality metrics systems; for use in our proprietary analysis, forecasting, and decision-making tools.

Step Two: Apply Powerful Data Science

We apply machine-learned behavior to our powerful AI forecast models. Combined with proprietary observations, this results in weather forecasts that are more accurate than any other source. Current conditions and historical data from the Tempest Network are combined with the best available computer forecasts to train the AI models. Continual verification monitors and tunes these models to further enhance forecast accuracy.

Step Three: Deliver Actionable Information

Validated data is delivered via powerful mobile and web applications, SaaS tools, and our API, so that clients can plan for any type of weather impact from anywhere. Whether you’re a manufacturer that needs to forecast productivity, a wind power generator that needs to prepare for a gusty frontal passage, or even the U.S. military in need of repositioning an aircraft carrier - we can help.

The Tempest Advantage

Our ability to leverage the sheer number and quality of stations in the Tempest Network enables us to provide a clearly better measurement of conditions now and, using machine learning, paint a more accurate picture of the future. The more Tempest systems that are located in an area, the more impact the data can have and the more we are able to make a significant difference. It’s this vast dataset that drives our Nearcast™ technology.

“WeatherFlow-Tempest has pioneered a new approach to weather observing and forecasting that benefits all of our customers and partners,” WeatherFlow-Tempest's Chief Science Officer, Dr. Marty Bell explains. “We have data and tools that no one else has, enabling us to deliver more accurate and actionable weather information. From individual Tempest owners and app subscribers to our professional clients, every single customer can leverage better data to make better decisions.”
